Personal Statement

I believe as an employee of Gower College, I have proven myself to be:

  • Friendly, with the ability to get on well with people of all ages, backgrounds and abilities
  • Adaptable to the needs of the student, varying my skills and delivery accordingly
  • Considerate of the stakeholders and their needs
  • Organised, with excellent record keeping skills
  • Patient, understanding, and supportive of those who may lack confidence
  • Methodical and creative in my lesson planning to make learning fun and accessible, to improve comprehension
  • Motivational and encouraging, to maintain learner engagement and boose colleague morale
  • Keen to promote development, and a forerunner in the move to remote teaching and learning

Upon joining Gower College, my first role was to deliver Functional Skills as part of the English contract.  This allowed me to work very closely with the Essential Skills team.  I have mainained excellent ties with them, and we have since collaborated on the move to Teams, the rollout of Digital Skills and ALN support programmes.

As a digital menor, I was able to support staff across the college in deparments other than my own.  This was a fantastic opportunity to meet the wider team and form cross-college links.  I have supported the Business Administration team with resources, and their use of technology, I regularly assist with Smart Assessor, work closely with the Digital and Quality teams, and I have an excellent working relationship with staff across the campuses.

I have initiated Computing, IT and Functional Skills courses which are now in full-time delivery and, through this, I have made excellent contacts in the Health Board, the DVLA and local councils.  I am frequently called upon to meet with employers to answer queries about eligibility and discuss the training we offer.

While I have had few leadership and support roles to date, I am keen to develop in this field.  I have demonstrated that I can work to deadlines, am target driven, and can plan to meet the needs of both my employer and our commercial partners.

I have recently completed my Level 5 Apprenticeship in Leadership and Management.  To further develop my skills, I took a role of responsibility in the rollout of  the new Agored Digital Skills for Business, Agored User Centred Design, City and Guilds L4 IT Software, Web and Telecoms and City and Guilds L4 in Business and Administration.  I pride myself in my ability to handle the demands of a full caseload, alongside the development of new courses and other activities within the college.

I am a qualified Assessor and Internal Quality Assurer, I understand the need for compliance across our delivery platforms and I lead regular standardisation meetings across the digital teams.  I hold a PGCE with Qualified Teacher Status, I am committed to promoting a safe environment for staff and students, have enhanced DBS and registration with the EWC.
